Date: August 25, 2019
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
A Monarch Butterfly Migration to Mexico Event will be held at 2 pm, Sunday August 25 at ArtStart Rhinelander. ArtStart will host this local opportunity to learn about the biology and natural history of the amazing Monarch Butterfly! Live butterflies and other life stages will be available for a close look!
We will view the 2012 documentary film Flight of the Butterflies on ArtStart’s big screen. This Canadian film covers Dr. Fred Urquhart's nearly 40-year-long investigation into the monarch butterfly, tracking the details of what is considered one of the longest known insect migrations: the flight of the monarch butterfly from Central Mexico to the United States and Canada and back.
Bonus question and answer session will be hosted by Paula Larson and JoAnne Lund. Paula is a Citizen Scientist and Founder of Monarch March, a conservationist group of volunteers dedicated to the preservation of the Monarch Butterfly. JoAnne is an Insect Ecologist and Environmental Educator. Efforts of Monarch March promote a thriving Monarch Butterfly population and keeping the Monarch off the Endangered List.
